Case study

BeatMarket — beat licensing marketplace

A developing platform bringing together beat discovery, previews, musical filters, producer pages, submissions and licensing.

Conceptual BeatMarket music discovery artwork, not an actual screenshot

Problem

Beat discovery, licensing details and producer contact are often scattered. Artists need one place to find tracks, listen to previews and understand rights.

Goal

Build an integrated music marketplace connecting discovery, listening, producer profiles and licensing.

Users and roles

Buyer / artist

Searches and filters the catalog, listens to previews and reviews licensing options.

Producer

Submits beats and can receive private access to producer tools after approval.

Moderator

Reviews submissions before the content is publicly listed.

Key features

  • Catalog search with price, BPM and date sorting.
  • Genre, musical-key and BPM-range filters.
  • Beat cards, detail pages and producer profiles.
  • Audio preview playback.
  • Producer submissions and approval workflow.
  • Licensing, purchase and download routes backed by Supabase.

Technical decisions

  • Use separate routes for catalog browsing and track details.
  • Keep music-specific filtering responsive without full-page reloads.
  • Moderate user-submitted content before public listing.
  • Separate payments and downloads from public catalog browsing.

What I learned

  • Understanding the needs of both producers and buyers.
  • Modeling genre, key, tempo and licensing metadata.
  • Bringing catalog search, playback and submission into one coherent journey.

Next improvements

  • Run end-to-end tests of payments and downloads.
  • Add security tests for uploads and producer permissions.
  • Further develop playback, discovery and catalog analytics.

Limitations

The platform is actively developed. Actual inventory, payments and downloads depend on approved listings and current integrations. It is not presented as a finished marketplace. Artwork above is illustrative.
